I’m considering buying a DCC ready Bahman Climax and installing a Tsunami Soundtraxx decoder. Has anyone done this and if so, any tips learned from the install? Was the install possible?
I put a digitrax in and it was easy, but I don’t know where the speaker could go. I too wait for someone who has successfully put sound in that small an area.
I doubt that there would be room for a Tsunami decoder and speaker inside an HO scale Climax. You need to check the dimensiions of a Tsunami on the SoundTraxx web site, if they list such figures. The Tsunamis I have installed barely fit inside Bachmann Spectrum tenders of their Heavy Mountain.
At 1.7" long and over 1/2" wide I don’t think will fit. I thought that Soundtraxx made a special version of the LC decoder for the Climax. I got the special one for the 3 truck Shay. There is not much room in the Shay and the smaller decoder and speaker take it all. Since the Shay is bigger than the Climax its going to be a problem.
ESU makes a very small sound decoder called the Loksound Micro. I don’t know if it would work in the Climax, but might be worth looking into. I would give someone like Bruce Petraca at www.litchfieldstation.com a call and tell him what you want to accomplish and see what he suggests. Bruce is a reputable dealer for both ESU and Soundtraxx and is a genius at tough installations, especially sound, so I would start with him.
