Jon from Adel, IA, not very original and I’ve seriously considered changing it because all of you have much better screen names, but then my count would go to zero[:(] We’ve been here for 29 years, still can’t believe it. Only about 16 miles from where I grew up and there’s really nothing unique about Adel except it was a wonderful place to raise a family and we are comfortable.
Mine came from a job I had in southern California where I was involved in building and designing a nitrous oxide system for cars and trucks. Someone called me Nitroboy once and it stuck.
Baberuth comes from another portly fellow of a bygone era that made a habit of living large - doing everything he did to excess. The 73 is the year my youngest child was born
The 1688 Pennsy Topredo is my all time favorite engine that Lionel made.and it is also the First Train set my father bought as a teenager in 1939. As a result, since my Father is deceased the train brings back good memories of him and I chose 1688torpedo as a screen name.
Guess it’s suppose to have come from a relative in a Suffork town (no longer in exisistance) in England called Powelltor Born 1599, Died in Isle of Wright, Va. late 1600’s.
Actually, when I found this site, I didn’t think about using my regular RR handle (Threerails). I just registered my real name. The Threerails name is obvious. Lionel track and the maybe not so obvious 3rd rail of a rapid transit subway (One of my most favorite things!)
DJ Spanky - the DJ’ing name I’ve used since I started doing it for money in college in 1984. The “Spanky” nickname came a couple years earlier than that when I was a freshman in the Rutgers Marching Band. Being the shy, introverted person I am, I for some reason attracted the attention of some upper classmen, who figured out I had the same last name as the character from Little Rascals. I successfully ignored their referring to me as “Spanky” until my junior year, when I became a rank and section leader in the marching band, and the band director started referring to my rank as “Rank Spank” in front of 256 marching band members. Needless to say it then became a lost cause. Later that year I started using it as my DJ’ing name. The DJ’ing ended up helping to cover the cost of years 5 & 6 in school, and I’ve been doing it as a sideline ever since. Let’s me buy great toys to annoy the neighors with!
Well its the name I was given and I have yet to sign up on a website where it was taken. One uncle had it as a first name. Its a rare first name but more common as a last name in the U.K.
P.S.: Big Boy, one of these thursday nights my boss will be off and we will have a slow period when your in. And I can actually visit for 10 minutes.
Gary Seven is my user name or handle that I have used on computers for many years. It is the name of a character in the 1960’s version of Star Trek. You can read about the character and that cat at this link: http://catspawdynamics.com/ae.
Jim, Buck’s not really complaining. He just picked up a copy of his post from the old topic. Bob and I were too lazy to do that, so you’ll have to click on the link to read ours.[swg]
This is a fun “get to know you” topic which , if you look at the dates in the link, hasn’t been done in a while.
By the way, I’m almost back to the weight I was in that photo, and I still have those overalls and shirt in my closet.[:0][:p][:I][:D]
Sure looked that way to me, Elliot. The forum was kinda slow yesterday so I tried to get people writing. I’m relatively new and thought it might be an interesting discussion, and the very first sentence in my opening post says “Has this been covered already?”. Had I known it was, I wouldn’t have started the thread. But over 35 people have responded, so discussing it again can’t be that annoying.
Congratulations on your weight loss! It ain’t easy.
Thanks Jim, that photo is almost 13 years old. It’s been a long yoyo ride. By the way, Buck’s remark about people in “Roseyville” was a good natured poke at the Chief. You can’t tell the players without a scorecard.
Speaking of the Chief, I’m thrilled that he is coming to town, and we are finally going to get to meet face to face Saturday evening. Should be a fun time, we’ll tell you all about it, probably in the Coffee Pot.
