There is no way open flame should be near or in the vicinity of butadiene. Any cars containing even residue should be fully purged before any attempt at dismantling is effected, and then only under professional supervision.

In the world of volatile liquids, an empty container is generally more dangerous than a full one. Vapors mixed with oxygen in an empty container are many times more flammable and explosive than the fluid in a full container.
I wonder if there were any LEL detectors present before they lit up the torch. An empty car is still very dangerous. Especially butadiene because it is heavier than air.
