This business has decreased sharply on rrs due to the market declining. In 1960, US mills controlled 80%of the xport mkt. By 1990 it fell to less than 10%.By 2000 the share was less than half that but a slight increase in business has resulted but not enough to save the industry. Some mills have gone out of business as a result, hurting rr shipiments. In KS Cargill in Wellington closed in 2005, ADM @ Inman & Buhler in 2001 and in 2005 @ Blackwell, OK Con Agra mill closed which may result in shortline Blackwell Northern being shut down.I know currently that ADM in Ark City, KS is running a good amount of xport that is shipped in boxcars on BNSF to the TX ports. 1350 110lb. bags are loaded into a 50 ft bxcar. Again this is another example of freight that at one time was very big to rrs but now is only a drop in the bucket.
So now that we are healthier we should be able to export more flour to the world so they will be healthier too. Should be good for the Choo Choo’s too. OIE VEI!!!
It’s possible that we priced ourselves out of the market. It would probably be cheaper to export the grain (not sure–how well is that moving?) and have it ground in the receiving country.
Big industry produces what will sell; it’s called the profit motive. How about those people who don’t like whole-grain products? Would you force them at gunpoint to eat something they don’t like? You eat what you like, I’ll eat what I like, and the marketplace will sort it all out. I’ll bet you my next paycheck that if suddenly no one would buy white flour products the producers wouldn’t buy white flour, so the millers wouldn’t make white flour, and within 6 months no white flour would be produced in this country. Typical liberal, you think you know what’s best for everyone and want to force people to do what you think they should do.
(Rest assured, no butter or salt on my popcorn!)
He will be taken “Ted Or Alive” . “If it ain’t alive just before you eat it why would you even want to” “TED ROCKS” More flour/wheat means more trains. Trains good, flour , Maybe. The more we ship overseas the less we have to eat.
Andrew: I do not wi***o start an arguement. However, you may have noticed this is a trains forum. Many, if not all of us, come here to talk about trains and railroads. For me, it’s a good diversion from work, stress, and the politics that we are all surrounded with day in and day out. There are, literally 1000’s of forums were one can go to discuss/argue politcs. There are few good forums to talk about trains and railroads. This one is the best I’ve found.
As a favor to me, and others on the forum, could you try to focus more on trains, less on politics? Everyone gets along better that way. Thanks
I agree wih JOdom and Murphy Siding, this forum is not in the food police’s jurisdiction.
Ah,
You know all that whole grain and bran stuff keeps a guy…regular.
Must be just up the right ally for someone so…retentive…

Sammy the Bull might have had a horrible accident, be confined to a wheelchair, and broken both his arms. That might be the reason Sammy the Bull can not delete the topic and rewrite the topic with more research and more details about a specific worker to make the topic come alive. Let us bow our heads and pray that there is more to the story.
Get well soon, Sammy.
God be with you on your journey back to health.
Hope you make a speedy recovery. We all miss you and love you very much.
Thank you I can hear/ read again.
