Exporting Alberta's Petroleum Coke

It looks like CN will soon be hauling large volumes (10+ million tonnes/year) of petroleum coke from the Alberta oil sands to Prince Rupert for export.

MRL has been moving unit petroleum coke trains out of the Billings area (symbol U-LAURBE) for Roberts Bank.

Jeepers, will there be anything left in Alberta after all the “stuff” has been taken away??? Oh well, they will still have their piles and piles of money.

Hello,

this article is so true. I am currently working as an electrician for Suncor and writing this response from a camp owned by Suncor. I see every day how they use huge trucks to move the coke mountain from one location to another. Sure is good to hear that they have found a use for it.

The article is interesting as well for all the other products they want to start shipping through Prince Rupert. I didn’t know Canpotex is building a facility to ship potash. With all this potential business CN is in a nice position to capitalize being the only rail operator at Prince Rupert. I guess Grand Trunk Pacific’s original dream is finally paying off albeit 100 years late.
