Extant C425's

Does anyone know where one can find a phase two C425 to examine? Preference would be in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks, Ed

All the Centuries I know of are on the east side of the country. GVT properties operate several. Might be a good reason to travel to Steamtown - I do believe Delaware Lackawanna might have one or two. I think the Arkansas and Missouri might have some, too.

Unfortunately I can’t speak to their availability for inspection - you’d have to contact the railroads.

Possibly two places in Arizona. (Snowflake & Page)[?] …access to either would be tough.

Edit: Apache RR is all C420’s and C424’s…Saw LOD-9 feeding the “dragons” last year. (oops)

Not sure about Extant 425’s, but over in NW Arkansas is the pretty-much all ALCO A&MRR. Here is a link to their Alco Roster and some photos:

And this site as well, might be worth surfing around in, Rolf Stumpf’s Alco World:

Hope these links will answer some of your questions.

Although dated 2006, this link might prove useful to you. I’ve seen 2454, 2456, and 805 in service in Utica at various times.

Thanks all,

Ed

There weren’t that many C-425s to start with!

Ninety-one, based on that link I posted and adding them up in my head… [:D]

I believe by the time of the Century series it was Alco’s last gasp…and they didn’t sell as well as hoped. But they are an impressive machine up close.

We have the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville in western New York, which runs from its yard/shops in Lakeville to interchange near Rochester almost every other day with Alcos. I have caught up with their C425 #425 several times. A photo of it on the Diesel Shop website:

You could visit the LA&L shops after signing a release form in the office at Lakeville.

Also the New York & Lake Erie farther west, HQ, shops and station in Gowanda, NY, has a couple C425s.
