Hiawatha 335 was pretty packed, thanks to the dome. Half the people in it were railfans.

This is not an example of Amtrak being a success. It is an example of Amtrak being a complete and total failure as well as a welfare railroad for the recipients. If Amtrak was a success, it would charge a fare to cover its operating and maintenance expenses. Instead, most of those expenses are covered by the taxpayers. Most of those taxpayers will never use Amtrak. Therefore, Amtrak is the welfare railroad and a complete failure. The private sector would not tolerate any of these losses.

we need the direct Toronto-Sarnia-Chicago Amtak train back. US Homeland Security should lighten up!

Nice to see them marshaling passengers in the Great Hall rather than the overcrowded former concourse.

Mr Streeter, do you know this for a fact, or just some remark.

Mr. Guse - please use your “analysis” on the other major transportation means - roadways and airports - either they are all “welfare” or none of them are.

I knew these Michigan trains would be sucessful. the Chicago-Detroit corridor deserves to have a fourth frequency and night time alternative. It’s high time Amtrak reroute either the Capitol Limited or the Lake Shore through Michigan at night to fill that void. The new faster running time will be more than enough to make up for slow trek during the wee hours between Toledo and Detorit.

Enough Jeffrey. They were obviously meeting a demand for transportation. Above the rail, that train likely made money.

Does Mr. Guse think the barge industry should pay what the taxpayers cover in funding the Army Corps of Engineers to do all that dredging, lock & dam maintenance, river-level management, port construction & maintenance, etc. What about the 72,000 FAA salaries that taxpayers cover?
