I hope I chose the right site for this.I was at the cn south main line in vaughan and I saw three locos coming two were cn and the thirg was the f 40 an old via one painted for Algoma central heading into the mac millan yard. I wonder what It would be here for can’t work be done in the soo area? It was nice to see.
sorry I should also point out that it is used on the Agawa Canyon tours. i
Being that it is between tourist seasons, I would think the loco could be used anywhere it is needed. Apparently there is not enough work to keep it busy in the Soo.
I don’t know how much is left of the shop facilities that Algoma Central had when it was independent, but probably not much after years of cost cutting by Hunter Harrison. Light maintenance and inspections can probably still be carried out in the Soo, but Toronto is likely the nearest place for anything more major. I assume they are preparing for the summer tour trains.
While painted for the Agawa Canyon tour train, the F40PHR locos are acually CN engines originally built for Amtrak.
