F unit wheel diameter......

Gentlemen,

I recently came across an old Athearn blue box dummy FB unit that had been started but never finished. I decided to finish it up but it performs horribly on the code 83 track, so I parked it on a siding until better days come back. I then started thinking about upgrading the wheel sets but wasn’t sure if the unit used 33 or 36 inch wheels. Any thoughts or ideas???

Rich

Prototype used 40 inch wheels

Rich,

Athearn F7, A&B unit wheels scale out at 42’',NWSL,has NS, wheel sets that are perfect replacements,or you can try,Athearn,if you like…

Cheers,

Frank

Gidday Rich, 40" according to this …http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_F7

I gather that these would be the replacements…

Rich,

I somehow knew, someone would say 40’‘,that is the true scale, before Athearn fly-wheels,you can use 40’’ or 42’',the latter,I found from many people, are the better size, especially the NS ones from NWSL…

To ALL Disregard the link,it’s wrong, won’t work…It was too late to change,it.

Bad link. Two too many “;;” and probably don’t need the http// (at least that gave me an error). Plus the correct link takes you to the main page. I assume that you are trying to direct us to one of the HO threads, but it would be helpful to at least know what date the discussion was on. Just asking…

EDIT: I think you wanted www.modeltrainforum.com

Guys, Thanks for all the replies but I have a stupid question?? What is nwsl?

Rich

Should be this one, http://www.modeltrainforum.com/showthread.php?t=905

Sorry for the confusion guys;

Rich,

NWSL,stands for North West Short Line,parts distributor…

North West Short Line is the manufacturer of the solid nickel-silver wheels. They also have quite a variety of gears, motors, etc., to help with all kinds of projects.

If you have the old style outside-bearing trucks, NWSL is the place to get NS wheels. If you have the newer inside-bearing trucks, Athearn also has wheels and geared wheelsets (wheels and axle gear, all ready to go) available.
