Within the last couple weeks I had ridden the Royal Gorge Railroad out of Canon City, Colorado. There was an F-unit on one end of the train, in an orange, black and silver paint scheme, with the same style of lettering that the Denver & Rio Grande Western once used. I think the Royal Gorge Railroad has at least 2 or 3 of these F units. Does anyone out there know for sure what they are? And does anyone know what other power the Royal Gorge RR has on it’s roster?

I live hear the royal gorge and have seen the F-unit painted in the classic Rio Grande colors… It’s beautiful. I understand the unit is a former Chicago & Northwestern F unit…( I think it was #420, but don’t quote me on that) You might want to contact the C&NW historical society, or check and see if the Royal gorge RR has a web sight. I also understand that the line that is currently shut down north of there (tennessee pass) may re-open in a few years if one of the mines re-open as planned!

They had a Baldwin RS-4-TC, but it apparently has been sold.
I work for the Royal Gorge Route RR, and we do own two former CNW F7A’s. a former Santa Fe GP-7, a former DRGW SD-9, and a former Alaska RR F7-B.
The Baldwin we used to have on the property is owned by the family that runs the narrow gauge RR in Cripple Creek. It was stored on our property and then moved to another location
