can i get a point of view on a F7 genesis by athearn[:)]
just seen one an i am interested cause the paint scheme is ndem, one that i can’t find to often
I just got my 1st Genesis by Athern yesterday, and it is a F7.
it has DCC with sound.
Its a nice engine, smooth and well built. It has sounds when running DC or DCC.
Now, my problem is that when I ran it on DC, it had the sound. Then i hooked up my DCC set up, a NCE powercab, and it runs, but no sound. for a split second when the NCE was powered on, i heard sound but then gone, also when i power off the NCE the split second of sound comes again. I need to call Athern…
Other than that, i like the engine.
is that the kind of point of view you are looking for?

It sounds like your Function 8 is turned off in DCC mode. The sound can be turned off in DCC and it always comes up and then shuts down if function 8 is off.

I have a pair of Genesis F3s that came without Athearn’s DCC and sound which I have added my own sound and DCC. They run great and look great. I added a soundtrax DSD100LC sound card and it sounds pretty good as well. I have heard many negative comments about the DCC and sound that Athearn uses in these units (poor motor control for consisting), thats why I added my own. These engines tend to come from the factory over oiled which reduces the electrical pickups, mine run better since I cleaned the excess oil from the axles.

Sounds like the probs I have with one of my units, it stops, and if I press the sides of the trucks it will start again, how do I get to the axles?
I have 4 of the first runs, without DCC. Sweet runners. I haven’t put much track time on them yet. I’m happy with them.

I have one, I personally was not real happy with the sound. It was stuck on full blast. Family thought I had a major issues in the basement. I will have to add a booster to program it. I will not buy another just that it seems there is better products out there. I like Athearn rolling stock but the DCC engines have given me issues. My engine was very nosiy and made static noises on the track and was the only engine to have shorts on switches. I have larger steam engines with no problems. My F7 will go to the shelf until further notice.
