I suspect they were ex-Wabash F units when the Wabash was merged into the N&W.

That sounds right ? Do you know of anyone who has made these or is going to make them in HO scale ?
Bowser made a N&W F7: http://bowser-trains.com/Stewart/Loco%20Photos/5627.jpg. You’ll have to search for it.
Same story for Athearn: http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH80216
I recall seeing them in Detroit, MI and/or Windsor, Ont. … It would be easy to do your own if decals are available.
There are decals available for the early diesel locomotives in both the steam script, and the hamburger scheme for the N&W. The F-7’s the N&W had were indeed ex-wabash locomotives. Most were painted a blue very similar to the Wabash blue, and had yellow letters and herald.
As for who currently makes one? I am unsure, They would have been acquired after my time frame I am modeling. For my Alco RS-3, and RS-11 that I have, I stripped some random loco’s I bought and repainted them. Then I got the decals and finished them up. They are the early black with steam script now, and in my opinion look pretty good. If you have the ability to repaint a locomotive, that is the aproach I would take. You could get some Athearn versions. They have F7’s in both Genesis and Ready to Roll that would be good bases to start with.
If you want a higher level of prototype accuracy, check out the pillots of N&W’s ex-Wabash F7 A units: They’re straight-down flush with the nose, not slightly recessed like 99%* of F units. [* #3659 and 3661 are two exceptions that I found ]

Ken is correct, the Wabash F7’s were delivered with Passenger Pilots rather than the Freight Pilots as most F7’s were delivered with. In addition they had extra cooling coils on the roof, the part is available from Custom Finishing for the cooling coils.
Also the PRR and NYC received some of their F7’s with Passenger Pilots so it is not that 99% of F7’s had Freight Pilots but more like 75%.
Mainline Modeler magazine had an article back in the 90’s on how to detail and paint a N&W F7.

Thanks for all of the feed back. I have spent hours researching and looking (including EBAY & directly contacting manufacture ) for the F7 no one has one. Wanted to run this by everyone. I thought if I cannot find the M&W maybe I should look into seeing if I can find a Wabash unit and make changes with stickers etc…Have not looked yet for the Wabash units in HO. Anyone have any suggestions ?

Edit: The bad part is, they only have, the first row in stock. Oh well!
Found a few from Oriental Limited. If they are brass, it is a decent price. But I know nothing of Oriental Limited. Does look like they have a correct pilot. But it is hard to tell in the pic.
