Gents,
I have a life like FA1 that seems to have something rubbing on the inside. I can’t find it. I sent the loco back for replacement and unforutnately they sent me a new one that was noisier than the first. I’ve always had pretty good luck with these little guys but this one stumps me. I looked for signs of rubbing but just couldn’t find any.
Loosening the chassis screws helped a little…so I know it’s a clearance problem somewhere…
Any clues???

Remove the shell - and go from there.
Some of them had revolving fan blades run by rubber bands. I would check off that one: This ‘sub assembly’ is totaly cosmetic, robs power, and rubber deteriorates with time.
Don;
Does the P2K FA-1 come with that fan? I thought LL learned their lesson from the FA-2 which did have it and didn’t put it on anything else.
It’s the N scale version from LL with dual flywheels and direct worm gear drive. I can’t find any rub marks and have tried removing any irregularities from the castings. I think it’s just a noisy design. Most of these in my collection have more than what I would call normal noise but it’s acceptable I guess. This one engine really ticks me off though…I don’t think the motor is sufficiently isolated from the metal frame, and I don’t think the linkage isolates the gears/wheels from it either in this design. They really did a nice job on the alco, E8, and C-liners, and Erie builts…but these are irritating.
