How should I fabricate a boiler for an O scale 2 foot gauge 2-6-2? any ideas would be welcome
Gee… I guess I’d start with a metal tube. Unless you are not going to use real fire and steam, in which case a plastic tube may do.

My starting point for a couple of (relatively massive) 1:80 scale boilers was a length of heavywall PVC pipe. Since I don’t know the dimensions of the SR&RL prototype you’re following, I can’t offer any specific data. However, if (unlike my prototype which, has simple cylindrical boilers) you have to work up to a wagon-top shape, you can laminate layers of paper or thin styrene to beef up the basic pipe. The final layer should be an appropriate cover-everything conic section.

There was a nice three part series by Ken Rickman on building a steam loco from styrene and other materials. The first installment of the series detailed building the boiler. The articles are in the June, July and August editions of Model Railroad Hobbyist available online.
