I have purchased from them, if you get a defective engine they will send you a new one and you send the old one back in the box the new one came in. Atleast that is what they did for me. The have many sales and you need to wait for the lowest pice sale. I have never had an issue.
Factory Direct Trains is an offshoot of Broadway Limited Imports (one of the two brothers, Bob and Joe Grubba).
I purchased a Precision Craft A-B-A California Zephyr passenger loco set from them. All 3 units are powered and have ESU LokSound decoders in them. The lead A unit’s decoder somehow shorted out and began to smoke.
I sent an e-mail to FDT and they immediately sent a replacement unit along with a pre-paid UPS return label so I could send the defective loco back to them at their expense.
The are first rate in customer service.
I’ve ordered a few items from them. Top notch service.
As long as you do not order a Engine I want, great people. If you buy something I want, they suck![:D]
I’ve bought two or three locos from them - good service and prices.
Fast shipping too! I’ve bought 3 loco’s from them and special ordered one. Never heard anything but good about them! Jim
Ordered diesels in Paragon and Blueline at steep markdowns several times. Easy to order, fast delivery. I signed up for the email to get a heads-up on sales. Now if I could get UPS to stop throwing the packages 20 ft to the porch, there might not be any broken couplers…

I bought an PCM NYC F3 A-B (powered) unit pair from FDT last year. The A-unit front truck harness bound in right turns so I contacted them. They e-mailed me a pre-paid sticker and I sent it back in for repair. 10 days later it was back in my hands and running flawlessly.
That’s the only dealings that I’ve had with FTD but was very happy with the outcome. The one thing I wish they could have gotten right the first time was leaving off the additional headlight on the A-unit. The NYC F3s only had ONE headlight. I’ll correct it one of these days.

Amen to all of the above. My first buy was a CB&Q Heavy Mike and when I tried to run it, I got basic idle sounds, but no movement. They had installed a motion decoder before sending. In an email exchange that took about two or three Qs and As, we figured out that I had plugged the wires from tender to loco in upside down. Problem solved quickly. I had also messed up a discount deal they had on their web site when I placed the order, and they fixed that as well.
These are the kind of folks you want to do businrss with. If everyone had their approach to customer service and pricing, I’ll bet there’d be a lot less griping on this and similar forums.
Yes I have. No complaints. In fact the BLI stock cars I talk about in this thread were purchased from them http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/p/89603/1084192.aspx#1084192
Joe is very good getting orders out and I have been satified everytime I have placed an order. They called back to make sure of some detail on an item when I placed the order.
They are a great LHS away from Home for me.
