I seem to recall an article somewhere about using fake fur to create a tall grass field. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

I have been expermenting with this. Don’t remember where the article was. I am having trouble trimming it enogh and adding enough to make it look like something other than fake fur, I am also trying real mink, left over from an old coat. It seems to work a little better. Keep us posted with what you are learning.
The real place to start is at the fabric store. We all know what grass looks like. There is a wide range of products. Some look good others don’t. A little paint or dye can make for some great fields. Experiment!!
Art, I knew a guy who had access to fur from road kill, which he made look really good. I worry about the natural stuff if it is left on the skin. I suppose it will last if it was once part of a coat.

My article explains how to blend the thick backing edge of the fur so the fur looks like it is growing in the ground.

I bought Fake Fur on-line at Mendels. You can get up to 5 samples free. The solid camel color came the closes to being a natural color for dead grass or wheat. Half yard minimum order.
Eric Bronsky was one of the first modelers to write about using fake fur for modeling grass. The article was about modeling tall grass, mid-Western prairies, in the March, 1985 Model Railroader.
If you search the magazine index, this article will show up under his name. Searching using the subject of fake fur will probably find you any number of articles, including Harold’s recent one.
Edit: Sorry, “fake” is not one of the key words in the dictionary. Search using the keyword grass, all by itself.

Ken Patterson of the Midwest Valley Modelers club had an article in MR a couple years back on using fake fur to model tall prarie grass. as I recall he also used window screen material for the hill and sifted in some real dirt.
this site has good advice;
