ATLANTIC COAST LINE AND THE NORTHWESTERN OF SC
I’m with the guys who miss the Chicago & NorthWestern. I grew up with them and an engineer named Sewall Stinson let me operate his H10-44 one afternoon when I was only 7 years old. Got me hooked immediately. Roundhouse Rick!
Penn Central and Santa Fe Southern Pacific.
THE NKP
Would love to see these two flags return:
- Northern Pacific
- Illinois Central
I had a similar thing happen to me when I was 8. An engineer named Ernie let me operate an SD40-2(x3) from the siding behind my house, along the main, over a trestle, to the “yard” in town where I hopped on his friend Mike’s northbound GP 35 back to my house. I was totally hooked also!
GO CNW!
New York,New Haven & Hartford and the Milwaukee Road
Dang, guys, the only thing I ever got to ride was a switch engine, and that was just in the yard. [V]
SP & D&RGW for me - I refuse to acknowledge the existance of yellow tunnel motors. [(-D]
I kinda got my wish a few years ago, I’ve lived my whole life in Richfield MN along the old Minneapolis Northfield and Southern Ry., which was taken over by the Soo Line…which was taken over by CP Rail. Starting a few years ago, the “high line” I live along was leased to Progressive Rail, a shortline in the south metro (Mpls-St.Paul) area. They adopted a paint scheme based on the MNS scheme, even use GM switchers like MNS did 25 years ago. Not exactly the same but close enough.
I suppose there are a few people who grew up along the old Norfolk Southern shortline who were surprised to see their old favorite reborn as a major US interstate railroad.
Western Pacific
Denver & Rio Grande Western
Wisconsin Central. SD45 heaven.
