Fans of the Union Pacific

I have loved the UP railroad as long as I can remember. I am 14 years old and own models of equipment owned by every western railroads. I model cheifly in O scale, but also model in G scale.

Good for you. That’s good that you like the UP. You have an intrest which is good. Keep it up. Allan.

I too model and collect UP stuff. I have a complete Winged china set except for the sugar & creamer, along with table cloth and napkins.

As you can tell I’m a passenger car buff.

Not as big a fan as I once was as my intrest shifted to Conrail, but UP is still a sweet railroad with lots of heritage.

I also like Union Pacific railroad. Lots of great history.

While I’m not too of UP’s current management team, I have a lot of admiration for UP’s past accomplishments. They also had excellent PR when back in the 80s they were running public excursions with those huge steamers and their E-Units. I sure miss that version of the Union Pacific! Gone forever.

Blame has to be shared for UP’s current state: Frivolous lawsuits, and a post baby boom generation that is polarized by politics.

It’s still my goal to buy a pair of UP SD40-2s in HO. Since I model southeastern railroads, they would be “foreign power” making appearances every now and then.

UP is still running their steam excursions frequently. #844 just got finished with a SERIOUS overhaul. They also run the E units, most of the time with the steam.

I have always bought Santa Fe locomotives. I have an UP SD50 and I like it. An UP C44-9W will be on the way.

I Love the Union Pacific i am also 14 turning 15 in march.
just look at my sign I have a Challenger and just orderd a 4-8-4 northern #844.

Keep the the fans comming.
Go U.P!

I’m a UP lover also. They run through the area where I live. I own a UP 2-8-8-2 Mallet and two 8-40 CW units. A lot of people have it in for UP - as I once did for being the first railroad to charge model loco makers for the use of their logo and all, but I eventually forgave them and moved on. The only thing I can’t forgive them for is swallowing up my beloved Southern Pacific…

I am a fan of the UP!!!

For anyone interested, there is a cool new forum that you can join that specializes in western railroads. To get there just click the link on my signature.

While I’m a Conrail fan first and foremost I do like some of Union Pacific’s locos and stuff. Lots of nice pics of UP operating in Western PA my home town on railpictures.net. For a West Coast railroad UP seems to be quite a frequent visitor around here. So maybe I can have some pool service or run throughs on my layout. [8D]

As for UP’s policy of charging royalties toward Model railroad companies, to be honest I thought that was how the business worked all along so I have no problem with it. Unfortunately I seem to be the exception and many seem to want to blame UP for everything from kicking puppies to starting world war 3.

I always thought that model railroad companies always paid royalties to the RR companies until I read here they didn’t.

I don’t know about kicking puppies and starting WW III, but they have been caught red handed trying to cover up car/train accident scenes where they were at fault either because the crossing signals weren’t working or there was brush in the way or rolling stock on the side track blocking the drivers view - which they would quickly run in and clean up or move before investigators could arrive.

I still like the UP. Just not those flags. And not that Building America logo. I much like the “older” Union Pacific much better. I am ordering two Athearn Union Pacific SD40-2’s this May. Allan.

guess im a UP fan also my father worked for them for 43, and my dad"s best friend that i name after , worked for the UP for 45 years.

Not only am I a very big fan of the UP’s Flag Units, I am also the most patriotic person in my family. Flag units kick butt! Keep up the patriotism UP.[4:-)] Semper Fi.

I’ve got quite a few UP HO peices.Always liked their paint schemes. Tracks Ahead did a segment on the UP passenger trains a few weeks ago. Showed a big articulated their still running. (Don’t remember if it was a Challenger or a Big Boy)

I would like someone to find a railroad that hasnt done that. I would believe they are all guilty to some degree. Then again, I also know they take there unfair share of blame too cause juries cant understand why a fully loaded train can stop in 200 feet.
