Fascia color

In your opinion what color would you paint your fascias? I painted mine the same beige I used for my scenery but I’m not crazy about it. I thought about dark green or even black. It is only 6" and I don’t want to draw attention away from the layout.

I’ve used Hunter Green and had great results. It really draws attention to the scenery. I think and dark earthtone would work, black may be a little too much though. Is your layout setting more green (midwest, east, south) or western? If its western, you may want to use a dark brown to keep with the overall tones.

I model the east and here is what I did.
I painted a small piece of plastic with Floquil’s Earth color and took it to Lowe’s where they matched it and that’s what I use for my fascia. The wall under the layout is painted a dark flat hunter green. I may repaint the fascia soon with a more beige color.

I plan to paint mine the same colors as the corporate paint scheme.
So the sections of layout that face the Great Northeern they are going to be painted Blue with a white band at the bottom, The Uniopn Pacific is going to get Yellow with a Gray band at the bottom, and the Milw portion is going to get Orange with a black band at the bottom.

Even though I do not like unopn pacific I couldn’t bring myself to paint my entire UP fleet. But Im not buying any more UP stuff.

and the Milw. Well my friend dan twisted my arm

I used HD’s Emerald Green:

It seems as if it is a matter of preference. I have used both green and brown/tan. I like the effect in Dale’s first photo above…really accentuates the terrain without jumping off the layout and grabbing you like other colours might.

I would say to stay away from “unnatural” colours, and stick to earthy, or natural colours. For example, ochre would be garrish, as would pink, salmon, pearl, fuchisia, purple, lime green, sky blue, etc. These would clearly be garrish and impose themselves on the viewer. But, tans, pastels of yellow and green, leafy green, and others would be okay. I agree that black would be harsh, but if the ambient lighting were low, and the layout illuminated behind a valence overhead, black might actually work better than most colours. I believe that Joe Fugate would have something to say about that.

Swimming against the flow, I like white. I was originally going to use a green and primered the benchwork. Now I will go with the white, in real life it just disappears.

Just a thought

Just dont use the Emerald green. I really do not like that at all. That is wayy to green and just does not look right.

I used a tan color since my scenery is Desert and it looks *** good. I lik ethe idea od basing the color off of the scenery. Makes the scene look bigger.

I like this color:

Jack Burgess’ Yosemite Valley Railroad

jwmurray- I like it!! That is tight. Good, no really good job man. Perfect color choice to compliment the scenery. Two thumbs up!!

I prefer dark brown or hunter green. Sometimes to green can blend in with the scenery too much in my opinion. The dark brown offers a nice contrast.

I opted to use black. I went around with the colors, and found black gave me the best “not there look” which is what I wanted.

I used masonite with no paint. I’m pretty happy with it like it is. I actually never even thought of painting it??

i’m going to use a hunter green or earth brown when I get to that point. (Flat) Which ever I find on sale.

I’m going black . Becuase I know I have at least a Qt. of it .

jlrc47 - if you have a quart of black and model PRR, a teaspoon of green will give you the perfect color - Brunswick green.

On a more serious note, I have found that solid black shows my grubby paw-prints more than any other color except white. I’m going with unpainted Masonite. If I was using some other material I would probably paint it that same dark brown.

I plan to use leftover bead board paneling and stain it a dark walnut. Black is an option and does throw the attention on the layout but I just want to give it more of a furniture look.

flat black was the color for me. it takes your eyes off the benchwork and on to the layout…[8D]

We went through this not all that long ago, and I still vote for black. Eventually I’ll be adding black skirting below the fascia.

I just put a new folder with some pics of my fascia in my webshots album. Most any color is good as long as it doesn’t draw the eye away from the layout.
