Fastrack or O Track?

I’m investing in new track b/c my old 0-27 hand-me-down from my dad’s 50’s sets and my sets is nasty and headache to use so before the holidays are too much further gone I’m going to buy some new track. The question is what should I get, I love O b/c is vintage cool and reliable and easy to find. New Fastrack looks really cool too however I don’t know how much better its gonna be. I guess for laying trac on the carpet it has an advantage but I have tile floors so what should I get. Looking at the O guage “Track Pack” and just adding pieces of Fastrack to make a layout. Thanks

Depends on your personal preference. My preference would be to clean the old original track to make it serviceable again. But I understand that folks like new things, so get the track that is most pleasing to you.

FasTrack is nice looking for sure… I think nicer than the MTH counterpart. For a temporary floor layout - if that’s all you are going to do - then the FasTrack will probably make you happy.
If you plan on building a permanent layout sometime, in my opinion, the large roadbed of the FasTrack takes up too much space on a small layout. I’ve seen 4’x8’ layouts with the MTH RealTrax and there not much room for anything but the track layout. But if you were to have a simple layout with minimal scenery, and wanted to change the layout with ease, again the FasTrack does offer an advantage there. If your board was covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting, I think the FasTrack would pretty much stay in place… maybe just a couple screws here and there to keep the whole thing from accidentally being moved.
I like 027 track. It has a low profile and is the most inexpensive of all the track. But I can see why Lionel came out with the FasTrack. And the reviews have been favorable. I did read somewhere the FasTrack is rather noisy on just a bare board though, but so is tubular O or 027.

Kinda funny how you can’t just buy a cup of coffee anymore… you have to pick a flavor. The same could be said for buying 3-rail train track today.
