Fastrack trestle sets

I am relatively new to this so please bear with me. In assemblying my trestle set I have had a bit of difficulty with the small plastic plug that holds everything together. Does anybody have a better way to do this and could you please enlighten me. Thanks so much.

Somewhere along the line I read of an individual who said he chucked the plastic “pins” and used small machine screws. Easier to assemble and take apart.

I had to use a small pair of needle nose pliers to squeeze the little plugs. It was a pain. Maybe screws would be easier. On the bright side, once I got all mine together (about 40 of them) they have been great. Steve Bergerson

After an hour of snapping those silly plugs in place, my poor fingers were raw, I’ve decided to replace them with small machine screws and locknuts.

Oh yeah, make sure you have your bridge in the place you want it to be before you start assembling the trestle stands.

As usual I jumped into my project without reading up on how this particular Fastrack assembly worked, nor did it really dawn on me how long the bridge would be once the trestle supports were put together.

Ahh well we learn by doing at times.

I just watched TM Books & Vid’s video on fastrack layouts. They use small screws on the trestles and chuck the plastic plug-pin thingies.

A great vid.
