They’ll tell you it’s either MSTS or your trains. Family can pick up the pieces when it’s over. [:o)][oX)]
NZRMac, head straight over to “Train-Sim.com”, sign up for free, and start downloading all the engines and cars you can.[;)] have fun![:D]
I’ve been hooning about in the Amtrac Acela ( I have a model one shipping at the moment ) Great fun, did the passenger train tutorial got it right first time, didn’t crash into the end station!!

I remember the MSTS. Have fun!
That’s one fun piece of software - I had Auran Trainz myself, but I had to de-install it because it was so addicting![swg] But I suppose that won’t be a problem for you if your layout is already 95% complete…
I agree about the train-sim.com thing, you can get an awful lot of neat add ons, no matter what you model! I was amazed that the even have my little town in Wisconsin on a route!
EDIT: I just had a thought. If you realize that you are really, really addicted to MSTS, I’d recomend getting a raildriver console: http://www.raildriver.com/rdcontrols/desktop.php
It costs a fair peice of change, but it’s really worth every penny if you get really interested in running equipment. I’ve got it, and it’s so much better. A Keyboard is for typing, not driving trains.
The raildriver works awfully nice, all you have to do is throw the reverser, pull off the brake, ease out the throttle, and then just adjust the throttle untill the train is at the right speed. And, if you happen to be going down grade, you just apply and release the brakes. Much better than a keyboard.

It’s one of MS better efforts in the software field to my mind, pretty good apart from consist editor (which crashes if I try to add locos…) I replaced that with ConBuilder ( www.conbuilder.3dtrains.com ) which takes a little getting used to but is still easier than using a text editor to alter consist files. Also worth looking at www.trainartisan.com - they have a free download section with some very nice RS11s/hoppers/cabeese as a pack, also Via passenger cars amongst others. Enjoy!
PS. If you don’t already have good speakers, buy some - I can now make the floor vibrate with the bass note from the diesels which really adds to the experience…
At first I thought I missed fathers day, as well as my daughter, so you guys have a completly different date for Fathers and Mothers Day?
Congrats on MSTS! I have the original version, though don’t play it anymore, I did as Railroading_Brit said and hooked up a 5-way speaker system with sub woofer, riding in cab view was very ingulfing, I almost felt like I was running the real thing. Have fun, but remember the virtual world will never compare the the real deal, Model Trains [:D]
Ken:
You are hooked now! There are no known cures for two train addictions. I hope you’re in good health and can handle it. [;)][:D]

Thanks for the tips guys, the driver console is very cool, $150…mmmmm new loco or driver console…
I have a good set of speakers with a sub woofer, It does sound great sitting in the cab!!
I will certainly have to watch my time down here in trainsville.
