Favorite currently operating class 1 railroad

i included every RR that is currently operating in the U.S and some Canadian ones - i like BNSF

i didn’t vote…SP wasn’t on the list…chuck

This is the first poll I have seen with the SOO on it. Usually I have to select “other”.

Jim

The question was:

“What is your favorite CURRENTLY operating class 1 railroad?”

Maybe that’s why SP wasn’t on the list.[:D]

JEff

Have to go with BNSF, there are other modern roads I lke better, but they’re not Class 1s.

Rick

Aren’t Grand Trunk and the Soo chunks of CN nowadays? And are Amtrak and Via really considered class Ones?

I put down BNSF. I’m not a real big fan but I’ve always been interested in the Santa Fe. That’s the first railroad I remember seeing as a kid.

None, zero, zilch, zippo.

Soo is part of CP and Grand Trunk is part of CN.

Jim

Close.

The Grand Trunk Corp. now exists on paper only, and of the three railroads it used to control, two (the GTW and the DW&P) are part of CN. The third, CV, was sold off a few years ago.

The Soo has been a subsidiary of the CP for a long time, and although I don’t keep up with it, I believe it has been integrated into CP the same way as the GTW/DW&P have been integrated into CN.

Don’t know for sure about Amtrak or VIA, but since they mostly run on other RR’s tracks I tend to think they aren’t really Class 1’s. But then again, with the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak might be.

Steve

U.S. RR’s must have an operating revenue of at least $277.7 million to be designated class1 – also i can’t believe BNSF has the most votes (so far)

I hear you Chuck, SP will always be #1 with me too, but I had to go with UP because that’s the only choice I had due to the rules ([:(])…

Tracklayer

I had to say CSX with Norfolk Southern a close second.

BNSF![:D]

How can you not love the SOO?!?!

Just look at that route!

hmmm let me see?

what about the tiny new england central? they have a lot of gp38’s and thats it. i think their a class 1railroad.

I would think something as small as the New England Central would be a class 2 or class 3.

My vote goes for CSX Transportation and Conrail if it was still around[:(].

CSX, BNSF, NS…in that order

Via Rail isn’t a class one Canadian railroad. It was a subsidiary of CN and became a crown corporation (government owned) in 1978.
