Favorite engine

which one?

Steam: GN 2-6-8-0 which had 55" drivers. Wouldn’t win any speed races but could pull long, heavy freights all day. And it just looks cool.
Diesel: GN all F units ( both colors, empire and blue ) and SD 45 “Huscle Muscle”.

GREAT NORTHEN LIVES !!!

UP 3 Unit Gas Turbine

Split between the E7 and EMD Cowls! (FP45, F45, F40C, SDP40f, SDF40)

I have three - Steam, Classic Diesel, and Modern Diesel:

Steam - NYC Niagara, these were very sleek, stylish locos - planning to buy one of the Bachmann examples next month (or when they’re available, Bachmann UK still listing them as “awaiting stock”)

Classic Diesel - EMC E5. I would really like to see a model of the Nebraska Zephyr set (as preserved at the IRM) in HO scale plastic, though I suspect this is unlikely - not a big enough market! I’d settle for an E5 and some standard CB&Q coaches though.

Modern Diesel - I’ve been adding details to a Walthers Dash 8-40B recently, and have really grown to like these compact, chunky little locos. To my mind the standard cab looks better on this loco than the wide cab, though that’s just personal preference

I’m an E freak…I like the GE U50 alot.

I model 1999, in part so I can have BIG diesels. I like gnarly diesels like SD70Ms, AC4400CWs, SD80s and SD90s, and Dash-9s. So what engine model do I have the most of? MP15s.

C-855

The best engine on my layout is a proto Santa Fe 2-8-8-2 with a soundtraxx challenger decoder. I liked it so well I went out and bought the second one. I just wi***hat they would come out with some other numbers. The BRAODWAY LIMITED 4-8-4 is a nice engine also

remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Steam - Denver & Salt Lake 2-6-6-0 “Moffat Mallet” - theres just something irresistable about these quirky engines. Pitty you can only get them in brass (I’ve yet to see one sell for less than $450 on Ebay)[:(] Guess I’l have to keep saving the pennies[:-^]

Diesel - Alco S1, great looking switcher, smoked like a real engine should. [:D] And P2K did a great job of modelling them too.

Steam- Union Pacific Big Boy. Nothing could ever match the sheer size and power, and speed these locomotives put out. I also like just about any 4-8-4. (UP 844, SP 4449, Cotton Belt 819, Milwuakee 261, N&W 611, etc.)

First Gen. Diesel- Has to be the ALCO PA/PB.

Modern Diesel- EMD FP45s and F45s.

A four-way tie between CB&Q Hudsons, Northers, and Colorado 2-10-4 steamers, and DMIR 2-8-8-4 “Yellowstones”.

BN SD70MAC of course !!!

I would go with the GP40-2.

Lots of names missing here !
I like SD75 in CN paint and UP’s SD90 (the ones with a cab similar to the SD75, not the square one) ; these beasts look gracely powerful. The radiators of the SD90 are very impressive.

Québec City

Steam, gotta be Western Maryland’s class J-1 4-8-4 Potomacs. Pure glory with a fire inside!
Diesel, D&H PA’s of course!

GP15-1
GP38-2

Being a fan of the Southern Railway, I’ll have to go for their Ps-4 heavy pacifics. They weren’t the biggest or the fastest steam locomotives. Nor would they pull the most. But detailed out in Southern styling and finished in green and gold they were very beautiful locomotives.
Just my opinion, Have Fun,

Well, my favorite engine isn’t on here but I decided to vote for C40-8W (only in Locomotive Management Servive paint, the rest look terrible), here’s my entire list:

Steamer: PRR K4
1st generation diesel: E8
2st generation diesel: SD40-2 (Conrail version with flexicoil trucks)
3st generation diesel: SD60I (yes, there was such an engine)
Switcher: SW1500
Rebuild: B23-S7R
Other: SD38/MT6 slug set
