Favorite Model Railroad Scale

Pick which is your favorite model scale.

HO is the perfect scale!

Not too small for detail and sound (like N-ano scale and smalller),

Not too big for a nice layout (like O-versized and above).

It’s just RIGHT !!! [:)]

(All the above IMHO, natch!)

HEY!!! You left S off the list.

I find S to be the best size - big enough to see and build with, yet small enough to have a nice layout in a reasonable space.

I don’t really have a favorite - I like N for the prototypocally long trains it allows in a reasonable space, and I like O for the sheer massiveness it imparts to models of big steam power (which the smaller scales don’t do so well). I like HO (and use it) because it’s a good fit between the two. It’s large enough that high fidelity detailing is possible without conducting micro-surgery, but small enough to allow a decent-sized railroad empire in my basement.

N Scale for me. I don’t need to count rivets, I like to count cars.

I picked HO because that is what I have now. I like the details but not over board. I also like O and G scale. Just the size alone is good. I watch some of the layout shows on RFD and the O layouts are very impressive. One of the guys where I worked had a G scale street car running across the tops of the cubes at christmas time. You can get hooked real easy.

I went with N because of the scenery to tracks ratio. I also have limited space so that factored in.

HO all the way

HO is the way to go. It is just the right size for everyone.

I like both HO and N scales. HO for the level of detail I can get and N for the larger consists.

HO

Has to be HO for me. I’ve tried HO and N as a kid - currently planning an HO shelf module-sized layout.

HO has more of a presence to me. O would really have the presence, and I’ve been tempted by it also. I’m more into the “feel” of locomotives, etc. than long trains. If O or S were cheaper, I’d have some really tough decision to make.

I am still very intrigued by nice N scale layouts. There’s something about when people pull it off so nicely when it’s so small, it’s that much more impressive for some reason.

Nothing like N scale handlaid track! That is so impressive to me.

But for me, I think HO is my “home”

Where are all the so called N scale nuts ?.. Come on guys, the HOers are way ahead of us in the poll.

I chose N scale because I didn’t have a lot of space to work with, but also just because it’s always appealed to me more than any other scale or guage.

HO is the way to GO !!
Although my wife is pushing me towards Z scale…(takes-up less room).

Although I do like the concept of the NTrak Modules, wish someone in HO-land would
pioneer a similar idea.

I do not have a favorite. I like all the scales. I am modeling Ho though because thats what i have room for. I have N scale , Ho , O and G so i have it almost covered. I cannot afford Z but when i can you better believe i am investing in a breif case[:D][;)]

O.

No matter how well detailed or accurate, anything smaller seems like a toy compared to the bigger scales. Weight, power, and sound are the defining characteristics of trains, and O has them while still being affordable and convenient.

G as in GEE!!! Thats Huge!!!

If I could spend my money all over again, I would go with S guage. Too bad it doesn’t have the same selection as H.O.

I’ll go with N scale. At first I didn’t think I would like trains that small, but later I found out I don’t need a lot of detail. Started out with 027, then HO, come to find out I like N scale the best !! { I hope by next year, I’ll be running the 027 and HO also. }
