Favorite modern locomotive

What’s your favorite modern locomotive? Vote then share your comments below.

Mine is the Dash 8-40CW, which I notice seems to be dissapearing rather quickly out of the HO lineup.

Specifically I don’t have a “favorite”. If it’s a locomotive, I love it. Plain and simple.

SW-1500. Great switching loco

I think my favorite locomotives, recently, has been the Alcos, both diesel and steam. I picked the Dash 9 in the survey, but noticed all the choices are for freight only and don’t include any electric locomotives. From using Train Simulator I’ve come to like the Acelas.

I voted for the SD70 ,but nothing “GRABS” me like the EMD F-7 or E-8, did.

I chose EMD’s SD70’s series. I’ve been surprised that EMD has not tried to further is SD75 series. The increased horsepower made them comparable to the GE’s. A few railroads have purchased them, but it seems the straight 70’s are the fav. Must be a story there. Who knows, maybe we’ll someday see an SD75MAC rollin’ down the rails.

I Love Train’s a hole lot

F40C

The SD40-2, although they are getting old, is still my favorite and to my knowledge they are still dependable.

My opinion, the SD90Mac-H the latest 6000hp version, gotta like the design and all around great looking Loco…

SD70M - The Best - Period.

The only modem train engine i have right now is a tyco c-636 but i love the look of the f7s and the gp40s and gp38s

I, like most of you, love the SD70; especialy with flared radiatos. Does anyone know of someone who make an HO one with flared radiators?

I work at the Ford plant in Chicago,so I am not going to vote for any EMD product. For modern power, I’m going with the Dash 8-40C.

i run
sd70ms everyday. the ac4400s are good pullers, but they rattle too much.

My favorite is the GP15D. The various EMD 645-powered switchers have always been a favorite and this is the only switcher in current production.

Definately the SD70 series (especially with the flared radiators). Its basically the modern day version of the SD40-2.

I believe EMD is also producing a 2000 hp version of the GP15D called the GP20D. I’m not sure how well orders are going though. I’ve always been a loyal EMD fan, but I have to say that I love the look of the C40-9’s and Super-7’s (standard cabs of course. I live next to a NS main and I’m beginning to hate the C40-9W’s.) I think I heard that Athearn is going to produce an SD70M with flared radiators. It’s still in the pre-production stage, but look for it at Chicago.

As a BN fan, it was tough for me to leave the SD40-2 off this list. I knew if I had it on the list, I’d have to add a C30-7 or Dash-8 to keep the GE fans happy. Plus, as much as it pains me to say, the SD40-2 isn’t exactly “modern” anymore.
