I thought I would run the opposite of the of the popular worst paint scheme post with one where you talk about your favorite one. My pick is the maroon and gold pinstripes on the PRR’s GG1s[^][^][^][^][^][^]

I like the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range, but I also like Union Pacific and the old Southern Pacific. Rio Grande and Western was a good paint scheme for that road just because how it was fast through the mountains and everything. BNSF’s new scheme with that swoosh like logo is a awesome new addition to the BNSF logo family. Conrail is a great one too and along with CSX and their new all blue and yellow. When Burlington Northern was just its own self that forest green and balck and white was great too. Does anyone know the California Traction Railroad??? Well they have a black and yellow paint scheme that is soo hot when the engines are just coming out in the paint shop. The Illinois Central Gulf paint scheme will only be a memory now but I remember the logo and how the engines were painted up. I may be only 15 right now but I remeber the ICG and those were the best looking engines. Well those are my favs for paint schemes.
Burlington’s E5A’s
Then, maybe the NYC lightning bolts, and Illinois Central’s passenger livery E8’s
Southern Pacific or BNSF pumpkin warbonet
Southern Railway’s green and white and ACL’s Purple and Silver
Southern’s Green and White (like on SR/NS 4610), Seaboard System red and yellow Z with gray body, and the sleeping kitty Chessie.

My Favorite PAINT scheme choices are:
Burlington Northern’s SD40-2 LNG units and demonstrator SD60MAC are my favorite BN schemes.
The Soo Line’s 1960’s Red Swoosh on the F3 A-A, GP30 and GP40 are my favorite versions of the SOO scheme. The Soo Line Colormark Cars are my favorite freight car scheme.
Canadian National’s EXPO 86’ SD40-2 Locomotive with matching multi-color striped Box Cars were the best CN color scheme for Locos or rolling stock.
Santa Fe’s Superfleet 1990’s Warbonnet is my favorite version of the Santa Fe locomotive scheme.
Andrew Falconer
The Electro-Motive Division paint scheme for the SD60 Lease Fleet was a favorite.
In retrospect the Mid 1990’s Lease Fleet scheme with Silver and Red worked well.
Andrew F.
The Chesse System’s blue and gold (or was it yellow?) with the sleeping cat.

My fav would be mine of course (linked below) followed by the new BNSF scheme. What can I say, I dig the look and logo. Followed by some of the Northern Pacific and Western Pacific stuff. Dont know why…[8)]

I find that most folk like the paint scheme of railroads they grew up near or models they had as a kid.
But, lets be unbiased and REALLY pick the good, bad, and ugly diesel schemes. Pulling out all stops; no holds barred…
The Good (random order):
Chessie Cat
D&H
Reading
Santa Fe (post-zebra)
UP
BN (green, white)
CB&Q
LV (all schemes)
Southern (green)
CP (recent red scheme)
NYO&W
Vermont RR
Rutland
NH
ACL (purple)
BNSF (pumpkin scheme)
The Bad (random order):
SP (all except Daylight)
NYC
PRR
N&W
SAL
Conrail
The Ugly (random order):
PC
Amtrak (traditional red/white/blue pinstriping)
CN (recent–terrible color match (red/white/black))
Other railroads fall somewhere between these 3 categories
