Anything the Ma and Pa ran - my favorite railroad.

In fantasy, it was the Santa Fe Super Chief illustrated in the Lionel catalog running through something like Monument Valley. The first favorite REAL passenger train was its cousin, the Amtrak Texas Chief in the last month before the classic warbonnet F-units were taken off. It had the Santa Fe and Texas too.
Second choice: the Santa Fe California Special in Texas with all the interesting switching and connections enroute and its mix of heavyweight, fluted stainless steel and smooth-side “semi-lightweights”.
My favorite passenger train is NJ Transit
For me, its Santa Fe’s trains 23-24 the former Grand Canyon. I have fond memories riding in a Valley Series 6-6-4 sleeper. I model this train as it appeared from late 1968 to its demise when Amtrak assumed passenger service. The consist, baggage car, 2 chair cars, lunch counter diner dorm and chair car. Yes I do collect models of passenger cars. I have a Coach Yard model 1400 George M pullman 3-1-1 sleeper buffet lounge obs.
Although I don’t model English rail my fave has to be the Golden Arrow Express - London to Paris - with a big (stop laughing U.S. steam fans, 150 tons is big there) Bulleid Pacific Merchant Navy class. Twice a day as I grew up I ws able to see a light Bulleid pacific express within 100 metres from my house, usually Battle of Britain or West Country class, the locomotives were named but the train wasn’t. I also used to go to school on a little 5 carriage push pull usually an 0-6-0 tank, so I have a special fondness there.
My Favorite is the C&Os George Washington,FFV and the Sportsman.
Sorry for the second post…I can not get it to delete…Perhaps a moderator can do that for me?
Broad Gauge steam hauled Spirit Of Progress, First air conditioned passenger train in British Commowealth, all steel coaches and hauled by VR’s S class Pacifics. Non stop Melbourne to Albury in 3 hours over 200 Miles in 1938
Anything CB&Q - mainly due to those gorgeous stainless-steel E units!
The Southern Crescent with Green & Gold E8’s!
Empire Builder!
N&W’s Powhatan Arrow. A streamlined J-class 4-8-4 up front, 5 lightweight, smoothside, fully skirted cars in tuscan red lettered in gold, and a round-end observation car. With the short prototypical consist, this is also a train which will fit well on a lot of layouts. Now if someone would just do the correct cars in plastic, since probably very few were able to get the recently done brass consist. I saw it at the National Show in Ft. Lauderdale last year. Very nice, factory painted, interiors, lights. But at just over $2,400? Not in this life!
Missouri Pacific’s

Peninsula 400. Kate Shelly 400. Fond Du Lack 400(AKA the Fondy). What the heck, ALL THE 400s!
The UP’s COLA (City Of Los Angeles), the ATSFs Super Chief, the ATSFs Chief, SP’s Daylight, and N&Ws Pochohantas.
Don’t forget the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha with Beavertail observation cars!!
Streamliner: SHASTA DAYLIGHT
Non-Streamliner: The CB&Q/D&RGW/WP EXPOSITION FLYER, especially on the Rio Grande Moffat Line, where before they relaid heavier rail was pulled by 2 of the Rio Grande’s chunky and handsome little 1200 series 2-8-2’s. And after, of course, pulled by the 1700 4-8-4’s that were the prettiest Northerns any railroad ever had.

MY FAVORITE WAS THE WABASH CANON BALL BACK IN THE GOOD OLE DAYS
OF STEAM. I LIVED THREE BLOCKS FROM THE TRACKS AND LOVED TO HEAR
THE WHISTLE AS IT CAME INTO TOWN.
