I have several in the Southern California area.
Santa Barbara, CA - for the scenery and trains that roll by. 8 - 10 freights plus 15 - 20 Amtraks per day.
Sandcut in the Bakersfield to Tehachapi area. Plenty of freight traffic (BNSF & UP). On a bluff a railfan can see the 10+ miles into Bakersfiald.
Sullivan’s Curve in Cajon Pass because of the rock cuts and los of trains that pass thru thru area.
West Colton Yard because of the huge factor. It’s a 6 mile long rail yard with lots of traffic passing thru and by. Some of the trains are in the 150 car range with 4 - 5 units per train.
Beaumont because some of the hot shots are 6,000 tons with some of the draggers are 14,000 tons.
Area 51
Last time I was there all I saw were yellow locomotives from the Alien Pacific Railroad. I was beamed aboard the cab of an SD90/43 and given a ride to the edge of Saturns rings [alien][alien][alien].
