would you guys list your favorite RR companies I would say mine is the old Frisco railroad you can list fallen flags or the ones that are still around oh I almost forgot ship it on the Frisco
BNSF
ATSF
Missouri-Kansas-Texas
Illinois Central
Union Pacific
Chessie
Norfolk & Western
Southern Pacific
in that order, too.
Mainly this is based on what I’ve seen and grew up around, with the exception of the Chessie and N&W. Never saw these railroads in action but they’re famous because the N&W was made famous by O. Winston Link. The Chessie, I don’t know why, I just like the colors. Plus I have the Sandpatch route for MSTS.
I can now use MSTS to easily replicate what I see on the BNSF mainline everyday. We also see Union Pacific coal trains though here at least once a day, too. BNSF uses NS locos for run through power quite a bit and I have downloaded an NS Dash 9 to add to my consists to make it more prototypical (just for fun though, plus I get tired of seeing the same old trainsim default trains anyway.)
Norfolk & Western
CSX
Missouri Pacific
ATSF
Norfolk & Western and CSX operate right by my house. I go sit by the switchyard and watch them. N&W parks several of their diesels by my house at an old rail station they use as an office. I can walk right up to them. My daughter and I love to go over ther and look at them.
I grew up as a NYC kid in Buffalo. So therefore it is my favorite.
However, I now live Lisle, Il. near the BNSF. For variety of locomotives and
color schemes it can’t be beat. My numbers may off but you can see at least
3 BN , 2 SF & 2 BNSF color schemes not including the “Pumpkins” which
have turned yellow. Plus leased and run through CSX and NS pass through
here every day. Oh, i forgot UP and CN show up here on occasion.
I live near the UP westline to Geneva and it can be boring , unless you
are UP fan, because all you see is Armor yellow.
Living not too far from the BNSF Cajon Sub, I have to partial to the BNSF(ATSF) and the Union Pacific. SP is not far behind
I liked Ann Arbor,DT&I,And Penn Central, As they were the only trains that ran thru Cadillac,MI,back in the 1960,s and 70,s. They are all gone now,Only railroad around now is Tuscola and saginaw bay railroad. Not many trains running any more.
Alaska Railroad all the way. Too bad there arent any good ARR add-ons for MSTS.
Chicago and Northwestern…
In this order are my favorties!
-Wisconsin Central
-Canadian Pacific
-Soo Line
-Fox River Valley Railroad
-Wisconsin Southern
-Union Pacific
-Chicago & Northwestern
Where I live, we currently have the Canadian National, but I don’t like them one bit. We have had the WC, FRVR, SOO, and CNW in the past in Manitowoc, WI. Looking as if someday the WSOR?
Dave
I saw some F7s at www.railserve,com, maybe an F40 www.train-sim.com I can’t remember, I think I saw a passenger set there too. I’ll have to look again when “all nodes are no longer busy.”

I live in West Chicago, IL on the UP West line. Yeah, it gets pretty boring with all that Armour yellow. I sometimes (rarely) see a Norfolk Southern and CSX engines as part of a UP consist. Also, West Chicago has the EJ&E – bright orange engines but UP has been running a lot of their trains over the J. Since I grew up back East my favorite RR is the New York, New Haven & Hartford.
AMTRAK
BURLINGTION NORTHERN

My favorite railroads are the:
(#1) Wisconsin Central
2. EJ&E
I live near the Wisconsin Central mainline that passes through Grayslake and Round Lake Beach. I know now that CN bought out the Wisconsin Central. Therefore, the horns are different and so are the locomotives hauling the freights. But I will never forget the SD45s equipped with Nathan P3 horns tuned in A#.
The story of Casey Jones got me interested in railroads, so I have always had a soft spot for the Illinois Central. IC’s Yazoo & Mississippi Valley is a favorite, too, together with Columbus & Greenville.
Otherwise, I have fond memories of watching many CSX (ex-Louisville & Nashville) freights in and around Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and seeing IC, CSX, Kansas City Southern, Missouri Pacific, Norfolk Southern in the New Orleans area.
I am also interested in Southwestern and Western railroads, but the Deep South lines interest me the most.
My five favorites, in this order:
Pennsylvania
Boston and Maine
Santa Fe
Southern Pacific
Conrail
Based on Chicago Area Upbringing
C&NW
SOO Line
Southern Pacific
