Favorite Wheel Arrangement

What is your favorite wheel arrangment? If your favorite is not here, then check out Favorite Wheel Arrangment 2/3.

Just curious,
Daniel

Always favored the NKP Berkshires. It may be that there are at least 3 left in existence. Even so, they are a fine look looking loco.

There are two more Berks in existence on my MSTS virtual railroad!

Actually, my favorite wheel arrangement isn’t on this list! Where’s the 2-8-2s? Out of every wheel arrangement on the list, the 2-8-0 is the most numerous, followed by the 2-8-2 and 0-8-0.

Oh well, the NKP 2-8-4s are my second favorite. And Jerry, there are SIX NKP Berks left: 755 in Conneaut, OH, 757 in Strasburg, PA, 759 in Scranton, PA, 763 in Roanoke, VA, 765 in Ft Wayne, IN, and 779 in Lima, OH. There are seven other NKP steamers that have also been preserved, including two 0-6-0s, three 2-8-2s, a 4-6-0 and Hudson 170. NKP 765 is undergoing restoration so she can run again, and will make her breakin revenue run this August in Ohio! NKP 587 will be back under steam in 2005.

Thanks Ray. The three I remembered were 755, 759 (my favorite} and 765.

759 is my favorite only because I took my 2 young sons to Croton-Harmon in 1969 to see the Golden Spike Limited when it changed from a P-2b Electric out of GCT to the 759.

I was sad to see 759 in its current shape the last time I visited Steamtown

Thanks again. Jerry

My favorite wheel arrangement is when the wheels are touching the rails.

But considering what’s on the list I went with 2-8-0. Lemme know when you get around to the 4-8-4s and the like.

Here’s an idea: do multiple polls on different wheel arrangements until you hit them all, then take the most popular from each poll and combine them into one poll. Does that sound like a good idea?[?]

I don’t really have a favorite on this list. I’m just using this post in a selfish effort to get my first star…
And WHAD’YA KNOW!

On this listing, I listed the 0-8-0, especially the IHB U-4a, which David P. Morgan once opined was “the grandest 0-8-0 of all”.

WERE IS THE 4-8-4s???

Put 4-8-4 on that list!

I second that!
Also like the 2-8-2 and the 2-8-0!

Yeah me too,
I am the lead machienest in our shop section in our restoration clun. we Have a 4-8-4 so I’m BIASED grin>
