Almost anything that pulls (or pulled) cars with flanged wheels on steel rails, with a few exceptions:
Designs that were colossal failures (PRR T-1 being the absolute pick of the litter.)
Steam locos with shrouds that tried to hide the fact that they were steam locomotives.
The MILW bi-polar electrics. Were they pretending to be steamers?
That “thing” on the front of the Aerotrain. Did the same guy design the Edsel?
OTOH, I absolutely love the ATSF and NYC 4-8-4’s, and anything designed and built in Roanoke. (Too bad my modeling prototype never ran anything that big!)
A Japanese model railroader once built a 2-6-6-4 using two D62 kits for materials. The result looked remarkably like a Norfolk and Western class A with a Japanese accent.

I’m partial to STEAM, and 1st generation diesels. If I had to choose ONE, it would be
B&O S1a 2-10-2
EMD Geeps, all SDs, all GE U-boats, Mainly because that is what I grew up seeing the most of. I am learning how to post pics to this forum, so bear with me. If this one doesn’t work, I will try again.
Started out liking the GP38-2’s, have since grown to like the F3s,F9s,and EMD yard switchers, too.
Today’s dash 9’s. 4400 and the big 80mac’s.

But my all time favorite is 4-6-6-4.

My all time favorite is the 44ton center cab diesel, after that I like the RS1’s and RS3’s.

id have to agree with the dash series or ac4400cw. also, I love the gp series (especially for modeling). as for steam my Northern is just beautiful.

Oh, come on now Chuck, the T-1 wasn’t a TOTAL failure…It just needed a dang good engineer to run the thing…Which not everybody was…[:P]
