Sounds like the sixties and early seventies all over again. Even the little guys are dumping passenger service so they can run more feight trains.
I suspect more than freight traffic that has affected their decision.
Don’t know whether to laugh or cry. A shame the passenger service was squeezed out because the freight traffic was becoming too successful.
It is sad that tourist lines cannot survive in the current economy. There will be more lines giving up as matters get worse.
What will happen to the Alco S-2? Those alco are my favorite. S-1, 2, 3 & 4 . I ran an S-1 for years, and loved it. I’m the one who took care of it, maint, upkeep, FRA inspections ect.
They leased rail access from a local short line operator who runs the freight hauling operations. The access agreement may be expiring, and the short line may not be willing to renew it.
