There have been several instances of SEPTA trains being hit by rocks and bricks in that stretch of track. I feel that is probably more likely than gunfire anyway.

Sure, John Simpson,
“Hit by rocks”…everywhere track is, trains are targets for rocks, bricks and bullets.
42 years in engines…where I’m coming from:.
John, “more likely than gun fire. anyway.”
Agree!
Probably, 9, or more, to one gunshot incidents…rocks are 9, gunshot penetration of the cab structure is maybe less than 1.
I’m not on the NRA’s payroll in the Propoganda Division…

I had, for one, suspected gunfire being a possibility, Francis, but I know people who have been on Septa trains where the engineer was struck in the head by a brick in that stretch of track. What is done is done: hopefully measures can be taken to keep the RoW more secure from trespassers and people trying to attack trains from outside of the RoW.

It will be interesting once the whole story is told, but one might remember those old pix of PC F-units with windshield guards.

In an earlier post in another article about the windshield damage, someone had asked about the windshield grates that had been installed on Amtrak loco’s: It seems that over the years there were many complaints from crews about the distracting glare caused by the number board lights reflecting off the grates, over time the grates were removed as supposedly stronger windshields came available and were installed. These windshields may sustain significant cracks, but they are supposedly designed to deflect objects without shattering and allowing the object to enter the cab. Looking at the damage sustained by the windshield, it seems that it just what happened.

Hit by rocks, hit by gunfire, hit by fill-in-the-blank. What does this have to do with the train speeding into a curve at over 100mph? I think it’s a destraction the legal team is putting out there.
