Certainly shows how dumb he FCC is if they didn’t know, or couldn’t detect that this was happening. If the "“The Commission has a fundamental obligation to prevent the unauthorized transfer of radio licenses to unqualified parties, and to prevent unlicensed radio operations that can interfere with lawful radio communications” why didn’t they do it over the years it was happening. Typical government incompetence.
Obviously using the unauthorized facilities didn’t disturb any other lawful wireless operations. I guess that many of these are out of service for a long time now. Maybe FCC is over-regulating?
Not a government shakedown at all.
There are real valid reasons why the FCC tries to keep a handle on RF facilities.
Sounds like another big government shakedown against a for profit corporation. This is only the tip of the iceberg.Reduce the defecit and/or increase revenue to buy more votes.
And this is the same FCC that put a hold on all the PTC towers so they can do environmental studies of each one. Sounds like the CN should have just kept quiet and corrected their problems over time on the QT.
Mr Jordon
Actually not so much incompetence but a lack of manpower due to budget cuts over the years. Like most organizations with too many duties and lack of staff they reach for the lower hanging fruit first.
Since I read this news clip I’ve noticed that the radio communications involving CN’s “Desk 11” dispatcher that covers the “Matteson Sub” on Chicago’s south side has become very quiet. I’m wondering if when they took over operations of the EJ&E, and began utilizing those frequencies, maybe they were doing so without prior FCC approval. I’d like to see a more “in depth” follow up report on this.
