February issue of TRAINS magazine (Impressed with the SLC!)

I am pleased with your February issue of TRAINS magazine, especially the article about the San Luis Central, how cool is it to see an early 50’s GE 70-Tonner running on 60 to 85lb rail at 10mph in the year 2007![4:-)] If i’m ever near that area you can bet i’ll make sure i visit the SLC. Can’t believe it even still has it’s Cooper-Bessemer engine also. And the Chinese 2-10-2 was also a treat.

That L&N 70 tonner has an Alco 251 in it, which explains the smoke. The Cooper-Bessemer engine most often used in this model was a clean burning engine, for its time. Some 70 tonners were built with Caterpillar power plants, which also were smokeless compared to an Alco. The C-B and Cat engines were both equipped with Buchi turbos, and they ran on air(?) instead of exhaust gasses[?]
