The next Rockhill work session will take place Saturday, Sunday, September 27-28. We normally work from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday. For this session, we may alter the times a bit, since this is a MAXIMUM EFFORT session.
The chips are down here. We have two projects that we want to showcase for the Fall Spectacular: the reactivated Track 3 and the renovated Electrician’s Shop. We’ve been working on them all summer and they are nearly done. Now we have one work session left to fini***he job.
The tasks at this session are large but simple, and quite within our grasp IF we have enough people there. We look forward to having you join us for whatever part of the weekend fits your schedule.
Don’t be frightened off if you’ve never done trackwork before. If you can shovel loose dirt into a hole, you can make a vital trackwork contribution during this weekend. If you are a trackwork expert, so much the better.
PLEASE, if you are coming, let me know. It would be a big help in planning to know who will be there each day.
We’ll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.
Bring shovels! Come dressed to paint!
Here’s the plan.
TRACK 3
We need to:
- Finish inserting new ties into trenches already dug
- Complete spiking begun in August
- Level and align the track
We will assign most of the crew to this team. The tools you need to bring are shovels and work gloves.
ELECTRICIAN’S SHOP
We will:
- Install roof eave trim and south-end battens prepainted at last session.
- Complete the surface preparation begun at last session
- Apply a white primer coat on Saturday
- Apply a finish red coat on Sunday
We can use up to six people on this team. Please bring paint scrapers, heavy duty sanders, hundred-foot extension cords, and hammers. When we fini***he work on the Electrician’s Shop building each day, this crew will help the track gang
