Here is a link to a Fedex video about their new venture into using High-Speed freight rail in Europe in conjunction with SNCF. A new sorting center and airfreight terminal would be built a Paris Charles de Gaulle airport for transatlantic parcel flights with regional distribution viat high-speed rail to most of Western Europe. The joint venture is called CAREX, and they have issued a request for tenders to the major European train builders. The French government is providing funding to make this happen. They are looking to replace 100,000 truck journeys, and 1000 regional air flights per year.
FedEx (Fred Smith) wrote the express airfreight model; the only remaining question is how far off is UPS?
If it is possible to make the express freight model work (w/high speed railways already available there) ,
these folks will do it! [tup][tup]
