Every piece of rail. For me, there are no compromises here.

If there is continuous rail or soldered joints between the feeders, 6 feet. If not, then as needed to ensure you aren’t relying on unsoldered joints to carry the signal.
Your mileage may vary, on approved credit, void where prohibited by law, etc.
