fence

Does anyone have any tips on making fence in HO scale? I have a large lumber yard and trucking company that need to be surounded by six foot high fence. I dont like the look of store bought fence and I need so much, it would cost a fortune. Any ideas?

For chain link you can solder brass tubing for the pipe and use cheesecloth, or what ever looks good to you for the mesh. Then just hit it with very thinned down paint. Experiment and you will find something that will appeal to you. Where the fence is located can make choice of materials a factor. Especially if slightly out of scale.

This fence is made from wood, strip wood.

If you are wanting chain link, I have used brass tubing for the post and use tula (the stuff bridal vails are made of) from Wally World. I got mine over a year ago and it cost me $1.00 for a yard. I made lots of fence and have a whole lot of it left. You can get different sizes, so take a look and you can probley find something that will work.

If you want a more detailed explaination of how I did it, you can PM me and I will go into more detail. Hope to be of some help. Mike

Go to a fabric shop and get the stuff they make bridal veils out of. Use styrene or brass stock for the posts.

That’s actually spelled tulle, and pronounced “tool” [2c]

If you go to a fabric store, you can get bridal veil mesh (silver tulle) that is already painted. See http://www.fuzzyworld3.com/3um/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1768&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=142 for inspiration.

The square-wire fence in this photo is nylon window screen painted gray to simulate galvinized steel fence wire. The posts are satin pins. All tyhe materials are available from Wal-Mart.

I used the Tulle from Wally World to make the fence on my Overpass bridge. It cost me just over a dollar also and it’s enough to make miles of fence. I used the silver colored tulle and it looks like chainlink/cyclone fence. The posts were made from brass rod.

I found this easy to do and it came out very convincing… I think.

Quite awesome I would say! Great job! Thanks for the pics! [tup]

Wolfgang, that is a great looking fence!

Thank you, Phil.

Here’s another example, from ALLOY FORMS if I remember correct. I’ve bought it years ago. [:)]

Hello Wolfgang that is a great fence could you give some more detail on it ? How tall is it, how wide are the planks, what did you use for post? I would like to make one for my junkyard. And not to sure were to start. Thanks Frank

This is a picture from the other side:

You will find more pictures at my TrainBoard album.

The fence boards are about 2 x 8, posts about 8 x 8. There’s nobody who will take a tapeline. [:)] The boards are stained before gluing in place. The weathering comes when you glues the Woodland with thinned white glue. The water goes up in the boards and takes some stain with.

The fence here I made out of window screen. Cut it ay 45 degrees and spray paint silver.
