I wonder why the railroad’s obsession with getting their ACe’s numbered in the 4000 series. KCS and Ferromex have theirs in the 4000s, MRL and BHP have theirs in the 4300s. CSX has theirs in the 4800s. The only 2 that dont are BNSF and UP.
Could the 4000 series be indicative of the 4000 (plus) horsepower range of these units?
That would be my guess also.
Yeah, unfortunately we are well past the “good old days”, when every railroad had a different numbering scheme, and renumbered their entire roster every few years. Probably one of the reasons why the MILW went bankrupt, they had a good three renumberings in their diesel era. [:o)]
Now those are some VERY nice looking units!
Great locomotive…you have to like FXE’s paint scheme!
Whats that latch with the pad lock on it used for, it’s on the nose of the locomotive.
Oh, snow plows on a Mexican locomotive.
The plows will be removed before long
To me it looks like there’s a little metal bar that can be moved left or right, left obviously being the locked position since the small bar would be holding the door shut. If I am correct that this is infact a way to lock the door then it looks like the door is unlocked at the moment.
Yup, its a lock…on most of the wide or North American cabs in fact.
There is one just like it on the rear door too.
As for the plow, they may just leave it…serves a purpose besides moving snow.
We just shipped three former FEX C30s, numbers 3548, 3556 and 3558 to Brazil, they still had plows.
Ed’s right, plow pilots are for moving a lot more than snow; automobiles at grade crossings are another example.
