Fiance loves to build athearn blue box kits

My fiance just completed her first blue box kit. She loves the model railroad scene. I have dozens of blue box kits laying on a shelf, and she asked if she could build one, she is now in love with them. I think I have died and gone to heaven to find a pretty woman who likes to work on trains[:D][:)][:D]

Lucky you! Now if only my husband was as interested in MODELS as I am, but at least he is a died-in-the-wool railfan. Jennifer

Todd,

Cool deal!!

Jennifer,

Doesn’t like models? Isn’t that grounds for divorce? I bet he asks for directions when out driving too! Well, at least he enjoys trains and he picked a spouse with a great hobby so he can’t be that bad!

Todd, you probably don’t realize how important that is yet. I’m lucky too. My wife is into cars and trains as much as I am.

you got a real keeper there Todd…don’t let that one get away!..

Ah, if only I could ge tmy wife as interested in trains… well, she is into cars so at least it’s not all bad [:D]
And she did pick up some curtains and rods for the basement windows so we have a little privacy down there now. And my father-in-law has a HUGE collection and we are building the layout together. That’s a lot of DCC conversion to do… but he’s really big on the idea of the independent control, even if he doesn’t understand how it works. He CAN run trains with my Digitrax system without help now.

Randy,

Good move. Marrying her to get at her dad. Very very sly on your part!!!

Seriously. Sharing the hobby, any hobby with family is fantastic!!!

Dave

You are one lucky man to have your fiance build model trains with you! Most woman don’t support this hobby. Keep the encouragement for her!

You might want to get a prenup agreement so you don’t end up in a Digitrax vs. Lenz fight down the road! Try to avoid the MTH v. Lionel conflict until at least your fifth anniversary so that your marriage will be strong enough to survive the fallout! Of course I’m sure there are many on here that would love to have such “fights” with their spouses!! Sure as heck beats the China pattern debate - heck a plate’s a plate. You might end up being the first couple registered at Walthers.

Preup. LOL! Everything seems to remind me of MTH and Lionel lately. dkelly may be giving good advice. [:D]

In all seriousness, that is great that she enjoys making the kits. My wife doesn’t make kits, but enjoys railfanning. It works out pretty well.

My wife to be and I went to our first train show last weekend (her idea!!). We also went to our first “train store” while in Dallas. She also went ga ga over the traction pics that are linked in another thread here. I think I’m getting over to “our side”!!!

The downside is, you’re going to have to switch to traction modelling.

[:D]

Todd, very cool!
Youll have to hang onto her now for sure!

Get a1x3 board-a shelf. Mount 2 sets of track. Get a reversal unit. Read carefully the instructions. Get 2 trolleys. Hook everything up.You will need a powerpack. If I could do it,and I did, Darn near any one can.
Fumble fingers Flip.

Jennifer- What kind of MODELS are you refering to?
Flip

Downside? What downside? 6" minimum radius curves in HO (12" if you want the really broad sweep of big interurban curves), lots of prototypes to choose from, and CHICKS DIG IT (my wife likes trolleys too–and WANTS A TROLLEY LAYOUT IN THE LIVING ROOM!)!

rrinker - no problem . . . gonna have a trolley run in the urban part of the layout anyways

jetrock - lol . . . . I’ve never heard that as a reason to model anything (“Chicks dig it”). Of course if I were single I’d worry a little bit more about it (“hey babe - gotta lenz system on order and I really get bad vibes from MTH”) lol

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Well, maybe “chicks dig it” is a tad too broad…but it seems to be a trend that spouses are more comfortable with traction modeling than steam/diesel. Maybe it’s the “cuter” appearance of trolleys, or the smaller space required. It’s just one of those stereotypical railroad-oriented things that women tend to like, like pictures of “Chessie.” Maybe a gross overgeneralization, but an observation that tends to hold true nonetheless…

Jetrock - wasn’t disagreeing with you at all. They also seem to really like the garden railroads.

Where Do I find a Girlfriend like that?
