Do any of you go through periods where you’re really into steam, then suddenly you lose interest in that and jump to modern diesels, then maybe four or five months later back to steam again ?.

No…yes…I mean, no…
Seriously, since I do the early transition period, I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I don’t do the modern dieels though.

Naw. I’m too busy ripping brand new diesel and gas locos apart, and bashing them to something in On30 steam.
Years back I became fascinated with steamers after reading about the 100 m.p.h feats of the New York Central Hudsons. In 1981, as a member of the Tampa Bay NRHS, I rode an Operation Life Saver special hauled by the Chessie 4-8-4 #614.
I prefer to model diesels but once I get my layout established and diesels “tweaked”, I would strongly consider buying one or two steamers for excursion runs.
I can understand someone switching from modern diesels to steam. But switching from steam to diesels? That’s just plain sick![:D]LOL
Jeff
perhaps you should follow this lead Mr.Mouse.
I can’t say myself that I am strictly Diesel, but 20 out of the 22 I have are that way. The steam looks real good to me but just seems old some how… So I run mostly diesel.
I do this every couple of months or so, go to steam then back to diesel. My layout permits this because of my time frame I am using.
I have days when I like SD40-2s…I have days when I like GP9s…that’s why I have so many engines!
nope . steam only please
Same here. No diseasals on my layout, thank you. [}:)]
Nope, I’ve always wanted it all.
When I first got into the hobby, diesels was all I was interested in. Then on an impulse, I bought my first steamer and I was hooked. I had to have both so I’ve been a later transition period modeler since. I have no interest in modern power or rolling stock. And I would never want to run a freight train without a caboose.
Not steam to diesel. But I have modern moods with GP38s, 50s and 60s, Amtrak and EOTs. Then, I feel like RS3s and F7s, railroad passenger trains, and cabooses.
Nick
I switch all the time, I even run a Hudson with a bunch of GO Transit Bombardier cars just for fun. When I first got into MRRing I was into only newer diesel then I started getting into the older diesels and now I’m always wanting to buy a few more steamers to add to my collection.
I like diesels and narrow guage steam[;)]
LOL I gave up even before I started…

well, when i started i was dead set on doin the 1950’s in diesel cause i liked the pullman passenger cars( an add for the new(at the time) walthers ones + a visit to a layout got me interested) but then i found that i liked late late 60’s - modern age diesel, but i like steam to. so im just goin to try and make my layout as universal as possible without looking stupid, that way one day, i can run steam, the next day i can run diesel, so i just want both
I model them all[:D] but there are times when i like my Gp7 and times when i like my Sd70 Tim
I’m a steam freak at heart but I run diesels too… Nothing too modern though, latest is GP20… I like watching the outer mechanical workings on the Steam engines and with the addition of decent sound, WOW!! [:P] Never did like the blast of the diesel horns but the call of the steam whistles… cooooool… [:D]

I’ve heard of people switching from steam to dweezels, but there is a counseling program available for them. [%-)][%-)][%-)]
