Film script - 1930s- need hel0

Hello everyone,

I am writing a script set in the mid 1930s that revolves around railway. I wonder if there is anyone among you that could help me learn more details about how the business operated back then, what amenities passengers had etc.?

Really need more info! USA or other country. In the USA North, South, East or West. Local transportation or long haul, if long haul ‘premium’ or ordinary transportation. How much head end mail, express and milk traffic are involved on a route.

Assuming the USA:

For details on how American railroads were run in the mid-1930’s, STEEL TRAILS, the Epic of the Railroads (c) 1933 by Martin D Stevers, published by Grosset & Dunlap is a good start including details of what’s involved in making reservations for a train trip, with an explanation on what went on in the back office. Reminder: “Stevers” is spelled with an “R” not an “N”.

For what amenities would found on a passenger train, The American Railroad Passenger Car by John H White.

Mid-1930’s issues of Railway Age and Railway Mechanical Engineer will give some additional insight. Early issues of Trains will often have stories of riding the rails from that era.
