The anouncement made below. was done a wee bit premature it turns out. So I will not be buying anything anytime soon. Sorry for getting everyone excited.
Now feeling thoroughly worthless and depressed.
James
Hi Everybody.
I just wanted to spread the good news. Having been unemployed since the end of september, I finally got a job.
I have become a draftsman for a local building contractor here in town. Making a nice cushy wage to.
Im trying to decide what to buy!!! Used locomotives from a fried, or soon to be relased GN GP20s from walthers in both BSB and Orange and Green. I just can’t contain my self.
Looking foward to my own place and then I can choo choo party!!!
Hehehe, Definitely cheaper than a house, cheaper than an auto even, maybe cheaper than a motor bike, BUT I don’t believe it it movable. Brick structure with Stucco. 115 feet long about 54 feet wide.
Tell me about it, Its a pain in the bahaha when you have to mail order things like paint and glue, Its down right aggrivating when you don;t have the money to order it to begin with.
This is good news, James. Must be very exciting to finally be in a position where you can walk into a place and say, “Umm, I’ll take one of those, and a couple of these things, and…”
Think about buying stuff that you’ll have for the rest of your life, as opposed to expensive toys.
This comment won’t likely be well received on a model railroading forum, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. It’s a much better feeling to walk around the hobby shop and think, “I could spend my money on that, but I’m choosing not to…”, than to buy everything in sight.
I love driving my 10 year old pickup truck knowing I could buy a nicer car, but it’s better to drive my 100% paid off vehicle, etc.
Sorry, I know this post sounds like a downer, but I’m intending it to be encouraging to do something wise with your new venture.
(Take this from a guy, who when graduating from college, thought he’d be “rich”, and spent money unwisely for a few years).
Now I kick myself, realizing if I’d done wiser things with it, I’d be reaping the benefits already!
And congrats on the new job!!! Are you using CAD software, or are you drafting by hand?
Those skills (either one) pay off in our awesome hobby!!!
Yes it is really for sale, and that is the only reason I’ve not purchased it. The Denver to Kiowa Kansas commute is too far even to work on it on the week ends.
DUDE! I can really feel for you! I’m in the same boat![V] I’m 41 and I have a excellent background in printing and fabrication and welding. (great referances from my old bosses) I can’t even get a job at Wal-Mart because I’m “over qaulified” I’m starting to think it’s because I’m a “Yankee” from Ohio and I don’t chew Skoal and hunt deer!
(Southern hospitality my ss) I’ve been passed over for jobs in favor of MORONS that can’t spell their own names!!![banghead][banghead][banghead]
I have two old bosses from Oh and Chicago that call me and offer me $50K to come back to work for them.
Unfortunatly I live with my mom who is in failing health and I can’t do anything till she kicks off.(and she is making my life a living HLL)&&&%#@@**
I feel for man… I REALLY do!
