Finally!

Well, after just under a month from tearing down my old layout, I finally got enough bench work, foam and track laid in my new gargae to run some trains. Last nite I laid all the track to my East Side industry area and actually did some operating. Granted my structures have a way to go, only a few plus, my main wharehouse is 3 short peices of 2x4’s, but it did the job. And the refinery, was 2 old beer bottles and fastfood cup.

New layout starting to grow. I have about 60% of the bench work bui;t and around 80 feet fo track laid too.

I wish I could post some pics but my photos host, Webshots, doesnt allow it, but the link

should work if you are haveing a slow day…[:)]

Best regards

John–a girlfriend that will let you have the whole garage to play in is not only a keeper, she should be worshiped DAILY! Very cool photographs, I like the long yard and sweeping curves. Keep us posted on the progress, okay?
BTW, if your website doesn’t allow you to post pictures on the forum, you might think of switching to RailImages or Picture Trail. I know that Picture Trail will allow you to post up to 50 for free, or unlimited for about $20 a year.
Anyway, keep up the good work! Man, a whole garage–doesn’t it feel WONDERFUL?

That’s looking good John, i wish i could have done mine so fast, it’s took me a year so far and i have only just got the benchwork done and a bit of landscaping, i like the bridge, i use picture trail to post images
keep up the good work

Steve,
Dont fret to much about my speed. I think I have maybe 6 or 7 evenings spent working on it. Granted, I am blazeing fast but I am also taking seriuos shortcuts. For instance, my bench work might make some folks gasp, as it I did the bareest minimum. And my track, is just nailed down with the atlas nails pushed into the foam. Cork and all… Biggest reason, I learned from my last one, that it will only be standing for 1-2 years tops as we are renting this house. So, I figure why go nuts on bench work and base if I know I am going to tear it up? If this was the layout I was building when we finally get our house, it would be a much different story.

By the way Steve, that is a great shot in your post… Thats incredible, is that on your layout??. Oh And Tom, (Incredible layout by the way, I know I have commented on it before, incredible landscapeing) I had to hide the computer screen from our kitty. Dont want to give him any ideas abouyt playing Furzilla.

Hi John, the pics on one of the (almost) complete sections, just got to do the tree’s

Good work! I hope to be building my new layout soon.

I’m not trying to criticize your work but everyone knows a refinery is 2 empty quarts of 10W30, and beer bottles should be used only for a brewery.

John (Canazar),

Great looking bridge you have there ! [8D] Who makes it ? How long is it? Would you know if it is available in N-scale ? I need a bridge to span a gap about 20" long in front of a small window. The one you have looks like it just might work – with a little tweeking.

CR - Looks like Atlas curved truss or similar with Pola box girder ends. Looks nice. J.R.

Thanks, J.R. (GMTRacing). I’ll have to look around to see if I can find it (or something similar) at my LHS.

it’s great to get stuff up and running, just remember to try and do a good job no matter how long it takes…you’ll thank yourself for it someday…[:D]…chuck

GMT, Chat is right. it is the Atlas “Chord Bridge”. It is made up one full arch I got a swap meet and the other arch that I bought new with the the two “pony” bridges… Well thats what atlas calls them anyway. The one was fairly old and had faded. They were originally on different spots on the old layout so it didnt matter. But I came up with a great idea and I am going to put them together for a “railfan’s paradise” section on the new layout.
I sat them up and hit them with like 4 different colors with the airbru***op and bottom to shade them out toghether. I need to get some dark brown for abit of rust. Hopefully, I will get some better pictures of the brirdge

Thanks for the comments guys. Made me all warm and fuzzy!

DOH! I know, you busted me. But for the cost of oil and gas these days, I couldnt even FAKE building a PRETEND refinery

[:D][:D]

Hey check it out… 250 posts!

Your lucky! A whole “GARAGE” full of luck . Have fun.
