I was wondering if anyone knew if the CN GMD1u was modeled in HO and/or N scale? If it was not produced, what would be the best models to use to scratchbuild them?

If you’re not into kitbashing, then Overland Models has done them in brass and Point One Models has done a resin kit that can be converted to a GMD1u.
