fingerprints on an F unit

I have an n-scale intermountain F unit painted the southern pacific black widow scheme. The problem is I have left fingerprints in the factory finish when cleaning the wheels with Isoprophic Alcohol. I realized the dangers too late!

I am thinking by weathering the unit I can hide this… but I also thought I should treat the damaged areas first. I am not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a call for CSI [swg]

You might try a bit of light sanding with 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper before weathering. If you were using 90% alochol. the moisture on your fingers has dissolved the paint. 90% IPA is a good paint stripper!

Thanks! I figured sanding might be needed, thought kinda scared me though!

I am just beginning to teach myself to weather with chalks, no airbrush yet. So I will practice on a couple of my box cars first.

Sand, then refinish the model with a top coat of satin, matte or gloss.

Fingerprints? ok, who done it? oh, you did. Arrest that man! we have fingerprints as proof he damaged the locomotive!

Try the above ideas.
