Fingers crossed, first new road loco in something like 8 years

First order from Trainworld, too. Hopefully they actually have it in stock. Funny thing is, last loco I bought new was an Athearn model of the same loco (different number). Has to be at least 8 years ago I got that, probably more like 9)

Road loco, because it was only like 2 years ago I got the Walthers Plymouth.

No guesses, it’s an RS3, of course. One of the new Atlas ones with Loksound, they have a v5 decoder in them. Still need to modify the horns as they come with single note honkers on the hoods like always, but somewhere in my parts supply I have a couple of the Cal Scale M-3RT1s.

Otherwise, this one will be ready for service, unlike the stack of undec Atlas/Kato ones I have that need to be painted and get decoders installed in. Assuming Trainworld actually has it in stock and I get the darn thing.

I have my fingers crossed for you.

Good luck!

-Kevin

Hi Randy,

I hope you get your locomotive as ordered. Sounds like a great unit. Can’t beat Atlas or Locsound!

I hope you realize that it is going to be a distraction. Your going to start laying track and doing wiring much sooner than you had likely planned just so you can play with it![swg][(-D][(-D][tup]

Dave

Never had a problem with train world.

I’m sure its Pandemic related and being located in NYC, but TW has a lot of things on Taking Backorders.

The problem is that there have been several ebay onliners that have received, listed freely unspoken for inventory, and sold out of that inventory before TW has even had it available.

Even though the due dates have passed, its not like the producers have delayed shipment because other retailers have received inventory and sold out already.

I picked the option to cancel the order if the item was backordered…

It shipped today!

Yay! More RS3’s for me!

–Randy

A satisfied customer.

Trainworld shows Atlas RS3’s in stock and ready for adding to cart. I’ve seen other sellers load product into inventory and sell out items TW hasn’t ever come off of Backorder status.

Wishing for getting what you want.

Arrived today - it’s very nice. I still have to change out the horns, and add drip rails. It’s Loksound v5, sound is incredible. Already changed the horn to the correct one - it’s in the sound file, just have to change CV163 to 7 for the Nathan M3. Did take a big of puzzling to discover they screwed the loco to the plastic frame in the package, but that certainly kept it secure without any damage.

New toy! too bad all I can do at present is run it back and forth on a piece of flex track.

–Randy

Hi Randy,

I’m glad you are happy!!

Now, put the thing down and go back to building your layout!!![}:)][swg][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Just kidding! I’m quite sure that you are capable of setting your own priorities![tup] If you want to play with it then do so![(-D]

Dave

That is more than I can do right now.

I am happy for you. It sounds great.

-Kevin

You now have a tangible goal and now need to build the layout around it. Some might say you put the proverbial cart before the horse but whatever. The loco can serve as your end-goal.

If this loco is the cart before the horse, what about the other 17 operable and about as many backlog (most of them undec models that need decoders and painting, and a couple that need some work) of shopped locos? [(-D]

–Randy

Like I said, work on the layout! You have to have a layout to run trains! You can’t run several locos and consists on your test track all at the same time. Once the layout is operable you may decide to intersperse locomotive work with layout work, but don’t get stuck in the ‘plywood paradice’ conundrum.

Dave

Looks like I may add another one to the undec stack. Came across another Atlas/Kato on ebay so I tossed in a bid and so far no one’s topped it, less than an hour to go.

–Randy

Happy for you.

I love getting stuff I purchased in the mail. It’s like getting your own Christmas present.

Can you post a picture of it here Randy. Quite curious to see what it looks like.

TF

Didn’t win the undec one, outbid with 3 seconds left. No worries, I have 6 others to finish.

The Atlas one with sound - not my video but this is it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVELQeduPzY

Skip to 4:45 if you just want to hear it start up and run instead of hearing the guy blabber on. Also some people need to learn to hold the phone the right way when making videos…

–Randy

Hi Randy,

You are right. The guy talks too much. Oh well.

I have a question. What is the proper pronunciation for ‘Reading’? Is it “Reeding” as in "…reading a book…"or “Redding” as in “…bedding…”?

Thanks,

Dave

Dear heaven yes! I am so sick of that.

On Interstate 75, about three or four years ago, a few billboards were installed that way, vertical instead of horizontal. The thinking was that the cell phone generation would think they looked correct. They all came down about a year or two later.

It is correctly pronounced so that it rhymes with BEDDING, but everyone that plays Monopoly pronounces it the other way.

-Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

And I thought the English had funny pronunciations![swg][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Cheers!!

Dave
