I was watching ladder 49 when i noticed the fire station featured in the film looks exactly the same as Life Like’s HO scale Hampden #46 fire engine house. Do you think life like (which is based in Baltimore) Saw this fire house and modeled it? I think it is a very good posibility! Check it out they are exactly the same!
Not likely that there is any connection between the movie and the model. The Life Like Hampden Fire Station model has been around for at least 30 years. However, I believe I read somewhere that the model was indeed base on a real fire station but thought the prototype was located on Long Island, not in Baltimore. Its origins are perhaps identified in MR’s review of the kit long ago.

I did not mean the movie to the model i meant the fact that life like is in baltimore and the it was a coincidene that it is the same…thats all I thought it was interesting[:)]
this is the fire house I have built this picture was taken some months back and it looks nothing like this now! I have added another bay and better base when I get more time I will update it for you. I liked the movie but since I am a FF I realized for my layout a tiny 2 bay firehouse was not going to work as I need room for a Squad and fire trucks to include my tanker since my layout is not modern and has no hydrants.
Ok will, being a FF historian, when did hydrants become the norm? I’m lookingh to add a firestation to my 1930’s setup and just want to be semi-right [:p]
Hydrants go back a long way. The first order for cast-iron hydrants was placed in 1802. In big Eastern cities, hydrants similar to those in use today were being installed not long after the end of the Civil War.
Any U.S. city or reasonable town with a public water system in the 1930s would most likely have fire hydrants.
what you may have seen was that they used the model to film the movie…they use lots of models to create scenes in movies and it may be that they used this particular model to film the firehouse scene…Chuck
I do not think they used the model i did some reaserch and the station was abandoned and they used it to film the movie.
